Itinerary

Day One
Upon arrival at Poet’s Corner you will enjoy Marg’s famous baking for afternoon tea, drinks with your hosts before enjoying a delicious dinner with plenty of locally sourced ingredients at Poets Corner Lodge.

Day Two
After your breakfast, you will drive North through the township of Whangamata to Hahei (an hour and a half drive), one of the Coromandel’s most picturesque seaside villages.

Here you will board the Hahei Explorer – a hard bottom zodiac boat for your very special discovery cruise. See Cathedral Cove, cruise through the marine reserve, learn of the many islands that dot the reserve, great Pelagic bird viewing and with any luck, encounter common dolphins or orca.

Once back on land, a short drive takes you to the famous Hot Water Beach. The hot springs under the sand is accessible at two hour either side of low tide. Dig a hole in the sand and enjoy your personal hot spa before heading back down the coast to your accommodation.

Day Three
Day three do the Karangahake Gorge walk. This is a mild and enjoyable meander that takes you alongside the Ohinamuri stream through native bush and past historic mine shafts where a lucky encounter with glow worms. Choice of lunch at Ohinamuri Winery or Picnic on the beach (at your own expense)

Then it’s time to head down to the ocean, kick off your shoes and enjoy the warmth of the pure white sand of Waihi Beach. Lay out your picnic blanket, prop up your umbrella and enjoy your picnic on the beach. Or take a 45min walk around the coast to Orokawa Bay with ancient Pohutakawa trees shading the sands

Your afternoon is the perfect opportunity to follow your 100% Waihi Map into Waihi town to discover the historic township which was once a thriving gold mining town with 3 old pubs and a brothel. Visit the view point to see the working open pit gold mine and the grand historic pump house before heading back to the lodge to relax.

Day One

Enjoy drinks with your hosts before a sumptuous three-course dinner at the lodge, which features plenty of fresh local produce.

Day Two
Start your day with a cooked breakfast with a view before you set out to do the Karangahake Gorge walk. This is a mild and enjoyable meander that takes you alongside the Ohinamuri stream through native bush and past historic mine shafts - where you may even see the glow worms. Maps and torches provided.

Then it’s time to head down to the ocean, kick off your shoes and enjoy the warmth of the pure white sand of Waihi Beach. Lay out your picnic blanket, prop up your umbrella and enjoy your picnic on the beach!

Your afternoon sees you following your 100% Waihi Map into the town of Waihi to discover the historic township which was once a thriving gold mining town.

Day One

Enjoy drinks with your hosts before enjoying a sumptuous three-course dinner at the lodge, which features plenty of fresh local produce.

Day Two
30 min drive to Whangamata where you will meet Kiwi Dundee. Today is a photographer's dream with a delightful sample of Coromandel Peninsula's natural heritage and scenic beauty. Enjoy the flora & fauna of the semi-tropical rainforest with giant ferns, kauri trees native birdlife and crystal clear streams. Visit the old historic gold caves sparkling with glowworms and hear the fascinating history of this magic area.

Visit stunning coastal scenery with white sand beaches, magnificent cliffs decorated with ancient Pohutukawa trees, old Maori pa sites and offshore islands and tide permitting, a visit to Hot Water Beach. Lunch will be a delightful picnic or perhaps eat with the locals at a favourite café.

You’ll arrive back at Poets Corner at roughly 5:30 after a very informative and exciting day.

Day Three
Walk alongside the edge of the Pacific Ocean, and see two of the Waihi area’s most stunning, secluded beaches – Orokawa Bay and Homunga Bay.

Starting at Homunga Bay, just a short drive from Poet’s Corner Lodge where your hosts will drop you off. The walk begins through farm land which soon leads you around the rocky Coromandel coastline with views that stretch across to the edge of the world, and then on through native bush towards Orokawa Bay.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at secluded Orokawa Bay, where more often than not the beach is all yours to enjoy. After lunch, heading south toward the top of Waihi Beach where your hosts will pick you up when you are ready, and return to Poets Corner Lodge.
