November/December 2011

Well what a year it has been for NZ. An earthquake, we won the Rugby World Cup, and then a general election and now Christmas is upon us.

We are so proud of our All Black’s. That was a mayor achievement for NZ and having two future AB’s in the family we followed every game. My AB’s are aged 10 and 7 years so we have a wee way to go but if enthusiasm has anything to do with it they will be wearing the black jersey one day. Picture of Cameron our youngest, far right and his Dad the coach on the left.

Poets Corner is going well. We have just completed our outdoor chess set. My Grandchildren are going to enjoy this and we hope the guests will too.

It is amazing how fast the hedge has grown around this area A great place to relax in the afternoon sun and if chess is too strenuous there are the hammocks to sooth the stress away

We wish everyone a great festive season

Best wishes to all
Please come and join us in our special place

Live happily John and Marg

September/October 2011

Temperatures are warming, which is a sign spring is here,I love this time of the year and have been able to get out into the garden, with its promise of a new season and the smell of daffodils and daphne.

We are fast approaching our 6th season at the lodge and looking forward to it. We have succeeded in achieving an Enviro GOLD award for our sustainable tourism efforts. This is something that is very important to us in this changing world. If we all do our bit there will be something good for the Grand children to enjoy, as we do.

We have again been house painting and upgrading in the bedrooms. Our new web site is on line now so do check us out and see the new photo's of our improvements

We took a few days and went to visit Nelson to check out the area and visit a lodge there,Almyra. This is a magnificent property just north of Motueka. Hosts Ron and Fiona are delightful and immediately we felt we were staying with old friends. We recommend you check Almyra out if you are heading to Nelson and the Abel Tasman.A very special place and great value for money.

The Rugby World Cup is almost upons us and we still have rooms available, with NO PRICE INCREASE. We are an ideal place for those between games days. Get away from the hustle and bustle to Poets Corner where you can explore the Coromandel. We have lots to do around Waihi as well..

Do consider us when you are planning your trip away

We look forward to hearing from you

Take care

Marg

May/June 2011

We are slowing down after a very busy season, our 5th at Poets Corner

John and I have just had a few days away to explore parts of the South Island we had not been to before. We walked the Hollyford Track. An amazing experience for those of us who are not, super fit, but still want to get out walking in our native bush. It was the most well organised tramp I have ever done with breifings prior to departure, transport that arrived right on time, food supplied for the whole 3 days was of a very high standard.

The walk itself was varied with different types of forest, lakes, river, boat rides and a plane flight. The lodges were superb with the most delightful hosts. We were in a group of 16 with two very knowledgable guides. They told stories about the early settlers in the area and taught us about the local flora and forna as we went .We were very lucky having 3 fine days which meant views were spectacular.

Flying into Milford Sound at the end of the third day was breathtaking, We overnighted on a boat in the sounds before the bus trip, in a luxury coach, back to Queenstown. The people were all freindly and helpful and willing to talk about their special part of NZ. We definately reccommend this walk while you are in NZ

Poets Corner is now looking to the next season with Rugby World Cup looming. We have not increased our prices for this as many have and we do have rooms available.

We are centrally located being 2 hours from Auckland ,2 hours from Rotorua and 1,10 from Hamilton. So please consider us if you are looking for a place to stay, away from the main centers but central to the above mentioned games. There is plenty to keep you busy in the region and around Wiahi between games

We have made some great freinds this year and looking forward to getting to know lots more in the coming season.  Have fun planning your vacation and please do consider us as a stop on the way

We are looking forward to the next season,

Best Wishes
