MARTHA MINE: . An open cast mine in the middle of Waihi town. Activly being mined for gold and silver. Visit the Cornish Pump House, recently moved to sit at the top of the main street Take a 2 hour mine tour with a guide who will tell you all about mining in Waihi today

KARANGAHAKE GORGE WALK There is such a lot of mining history in the gorge and a variety of walks The famous Windows Walk which takes you through old mines shafts Walking up one side of the river, across the swing bridge and down the other side learning about the mining histroy as you go. It is on State highway 2 but cross a bridge and you are in another world. Lunch at Ohinimuri Winery after your walk
THE WAIHI MUSEUM: Is a nationally acknowledged treasure house of the mining, metallurgy and sociology of the region,
THE GOLDFIELDS RAILWAY: Starts from the historic station on Wrigley
Street, running daily to the historic Waikino Station.
WAIHI BEACH: 9 kilometres of white sand. It is a safe beach running south to Athenree. The north headland has a coastal walking track to Orokawa Bay, while the other, Bowentown – is the site of a fortified Maori pa.
OROKAWA WALKWAY: This relatively short walk takes you from the northern end of Waihi Beach to beautiful, secluded Orokawa Bay past spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Waihi Beach.
HOMUNGA- WAIHI BEACH WALK This is an easy 10km walk which takes you over farm land, along the rocky coast, past Orokawa Bay and on through bush to Waihi Beach.Spectacular in summer with the Pohutakawa trees in flower

WALKWAYS: Orokawa Walkway This relatively short walk takes you from the northern end of Waihi Beach to beautiful, secluded Orokawa Bay past spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Waihi Beach. Homunga Walkway Another beautiful bay, reached by a track from the northern end of Orokawa Bay, the Homunga track is notable for dense pohutukawa forest. The track is reasonably tough, but rewarding for those who enjoy a bit more of a challenge. Black Hill Walkway A short walk along the banks of the Ohinemuri River to Black Hill. Extensive views of Waihi, from the sea to the Karangahake Gorge.
